Beyond the Art – Saay Park

How do you feel about the current state of music in our city?
I think music in my city has come a long way. NYC birthed hip-hop and also birthed some great r&b as well. I think right now the music scene is at an all time high. Everyone’s being so inventive and creative and really grinding.
How important would you say it is to make connections with other artist when it comes to doing music?
I think it’s a 50/50 kind of situation. It’s important in the aspect that these other artists may become your new fans and that’s how you’ll grow a fanbase and also too it’s good to connect because you never know who can take you to higher places but I also feel as though sometimes in certain situations it’s also okay to not connect because everyone has a brand to adhere to.
What is the biggest mistake you’ve made while pursuing your career and how did you learn from it?
My biggest mistake was thinking that friends would support me right off the bat. I took a lot of grinding and just growing as a person and an artist that made them come around. I learned to honestly just leave everything in God’s hands and create the art that I want to create and not necessarily what others want me to make.

What do you like to do outside of music that contributes to you as an artist?
I love to dance and choreograph. I train and practice a lot especially because it’s apart of my sets so I always have to make sure I’m on point with everything. Every mistake performance wise just needs more fine tuning.
Who is your music hero and why?
My music hero is Prince. That man can do no wrong in my eyes. He was so out of the box but true to his craft. Not only was he a great singer, but he was a song writer, musician and businessman. Definitely someone to learn from and look up to as far as that and being yourself in the industry.
What do you think your supporters get out of your music that draws them to continuously listen?
I think my supporters love the vibe I bring with my music. I never create music to just say I want to create. I create music to fill a void or create a vibe. I feel like my supporters just enjoy the vibe, and also I’m a bit of a low toned singer so it’s also sometimes a bit hypnotizing.

What inspired your most recent single (name of song)?
My most recent single “NFS” was inspired by the bashment movement back in the 80s-90s. I love reggae music since it’s apart of my culture and I wanted to give a bit of a throwback to that era while still maintaining my original sound and still bring it to the new generation of 2017.
If you could record with any popular music producer, who would you choose and why?
I would record with Teddy Park. He’s a South Korean based music artist and producer. I would love to record with him because his music is always insanely amazing. Synths and everything in between are always refined and just amazing to vibe and listen to.
What is some advise you’d give to the 18 year old you?
I would tell myself to never give up and no matter how hard it may seem right now, that it’ll get better and you actually have a purpose in life and can do better for yourself.
Who are some of the people I’d find in your playlist that you listen to on the regular?
The-Dream, TONS OF K-Pop, Bob Marley, Rihanna, Prince, Usher, Buju Benton, Beenie Man.
Where can our readers find your music?
Search Saay Park on all streaming sites and you can for sure find me but if it’s easier then SoundCloud.com/saaypark

#NewMusicMondays – Spades Saratoga – What U Want

We back at it again with the music videos…

So this week I’m reviewing Spades Saratoga’s newest remix video entitled “What U Want”! Having followed this guys success since a little before he featured on Freestyle Friday via 106 & Park, I’m proud to finally have a platform I can show my support on. This video was directed by one of my favorite upcoming directors, @Director_Picaso! So you know I had to see this.

I must say the video is a lot simpler than I expected. In comparison to his music videos for his original songs, I’m glad the quality still exists without a story line. I think that’s what a lot of artists don’t understand. It’s quality over quantity. Even for remix tracks. Stop dropping music videos for everything looking crazy and you don’t always need a story line long as the visual looks good.

I did find it very comical that shorty in the orange twerked the ENTIRE video!! Kudos to you for the energy lol. Make sure you check out the video for yourself and tell us what you thought in the comments below.

#NewMusicMondays – Kwoat – Ms Jackson

MEZANMI WOYYY!

So this video wasn’t officially user submitted per say…. However, after suffering through a few pretty undesirable visuals, we decided to take a break and submit a video we like from our supporters. It was as if it was calling out to us!

Kwoat is a dope Haitian music artist from the Flatbush area of Brooklyn. He is one of those upcoming music artists that you know is going to make it! From the variety in his sound to the visual quality of his music videos… he brings a breath of free air to a very saturated New York underground scene.

When you watch the video you will understand what Blaq and I consider a great visual from our previous feedback via this segment. The video starts off in a beautiful skyrise apartment in where I presume to be Manhattan. He and his … girlfriend? get into a disagreement about something she saw on his phone. The content of the song mostly relays to how he doesn’t intend to make her upset though he’s a player. As a female, the lyrics spoke to me in a “this is our generation, men have multiple women and like them all, get over it” type of manner. “Told myself I never break a heart again. But if I break another woman’s heart Ill be the man in this generation.”  Unfortunately, this is the world we live in, where a man is glorified for being a serial heart breaker. But I digress…

I’m saying though, Stussy and TMobile need to slide through with the check for the product promotion!  Anyway, the girl gets so upset that she leaves… and another girl shows up! Kwoat, you know you wrong for that lol. What’s funny is, this girl was just as beautiful as the first girl and the level of excitement he showed when he seen her made me forget all about the first girl. This video was so well put together and seemless… Make sure you contact Zurisaddai Nikko Corona Jr on Facebook so he can direct and shoot your next video!!

Oh yea and Kwoat? Make sure you follow his rise to success.. You’ll be real mad in the future if you don’t 😉 Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

New Music Mondays! Soup – Recognize

The video for this week is “Recognize” by Soup!

The video begins with varying shots of the outdoors to match the piano keys in the intro. The video is full of quick transitions and varying outdoor shots. The song seems to be Soup warning other rappers to watch out for him and recognize that he’s dope and on the come up… Let em know Soup!! With references to major players like JayZ in the beginning of the video, I’m not sure what the intended concept for the visual to this song was but here is our review via DJ Blaq Bully on what she thought:

I have to say I struggled on the review for this video. I couldn’t really find the words to express my actual feelings for it. Then I realized, it was probably because I had none. The video quality was fine, definitely a clear picture. However, it just didn’t move me as a whole. A music video for your track should paint the visual to whatever it is you’re talking about. Whether it’s an artistic view or a realistic view of the picture you’re attempting to paint with your lyrics. This video lacked BOTH! I found myself zoning out during most of the video.

Also, some of the effects and transitions made me feel like I was going to have a seizure. Another piece of advice I’d give is to please pick better locations to shoot!!! When I am watching a music video, I would like to be entertained, informed, mesmerized and/or all of the above.

Soup, great effort! Maybe just put a little more thought into the concepts of your video next time. Keep grinding though!

-DJ BlaqBully

New Music Mondays! JR JustReal – Invisible

Welcome to “New Music Mondays”! This is LyveLyfeRadio.com’s first recurring segment where Dyme and DJ Blaq Bully will be reviewing underground & independent artists music videos. Doing this one a little late at night but better late than never right?…

Icmg/2 Deep recording artist JR JustReal released a video mid-January to his single “Invisible”. This video was directed by Tony Picaso and produced by Ppmg Hitmand. I’ve seen him around performing at numerous music events around New York City and have become a fan of his sound.  So I was definitely excited when I saw JR’s submission for our review. Not only is the artist good, but I’m also a big supporter of the video director (Painted by Picaso) so I already pre-judged the visuals before I watched it, lol.

The basis is a heartfelt song of how he feels invisible to his girlfriend and plans to leave her because she doesn’t give him attention. It gives me an early 2000s RnB feel, think Bobby Valentino or Sammie. It starts with JR and his “girlfriend” having a disagreement about her going out with her friends rather than spending time with him when he returns from the studio. She mentions that doing music doesn’t bring home a check. Rude! Then the video is mainly scenes of her on her phone when they are together in the room, her getting cozy with a guy in the hallway, and of JR outside singing his heart out. The video is actually very simple, not too much content, not too many scenes and very easy to digest as the viewer.

What would I change about it? Don’t really think I’d change anything. I think the song is cute. I’m very easily attracted to bright colors and chaotic scenes but this is one of those chill joints you play when you’re breaking up with your boo because they messed up! So it doesn’t call for much more than presented.

Random: So I don’t know if you all caught this but the curtain in the room says Goodnight! Comment below if you saw it!

This is the first single from his LP titled “Reality Check”. Follow @_IamJust_Real on Instagram and Twitter. You can check out the video below. Make sure you tell us your thoughts in the comments section:

Make sure you come back next week to read up on another video and tune in every Thursday 8-10pm on WVMRadio.net 😉
