Breaking Bad Habits

Habits are deemed as things that we practice; usually in an unconscious state of mind. Bad habits are especially hard to give up and usually adds no value to us as an individuals. Take a minute to evaluate your day to day actions- I’m sure you can find at least one regular tendency that you can rid yourself of. Whether it be constantly checking your phone, never completing a task or even having limited amount of patience in certain situations.

Now, you may be wondering how can you eliminate something that you have been doing for a long amount of time. Good news, there is still hope for you. However, habits sometimes become a part of who we are. So first it’s important to become aware of when and where you are practicing the act. It is very potent that we input this information in a journal or notepad. Logging the surrounding emotions before you do the act and thoughts after you have completed it. This allows you to become conscious and it helps to determine ways in which you can eliminate it. For example, do you find new ideas to be exciting but become anxious when confronted with difficult steps to complete the project at hand? Maintain a record of what kind of ideas bring about the excitement and when or what causes the anxiety.

Now, that we have identified the behavior it is important that we find a solution or a good replacement. When confronted with exciting ideas, it is important that we maintain the momentum- allocate a specific period of time to work on each idea separately and create a list of daily goals to be completed. This will promote time management and reduces the stress that comes with completing a large project. Once each idea is fermented, it is easy to combine them all together and before you know it the project is completed with no anxiety.

Remember, we are in control of our thoughts and what we practice. Let our habits be ones that brings about true excellence.

How Do We Stay Motivated After Disappointments?

We become enthuse with the expectations of our life and the model we desire for it to shadow. The enthusiasm forces us to seek ways to foster its growth- through gaining experience, taking risks and even losing ourselves just to see it flourish.

But, there comes a point in our life when disappointments become tradition, enthusiasm becomes disinterest and dullness. Life knocks us down and the happiness and success you dream of seems out of reach. However, in those moments, it is okay to acknowledge the feelings of weariness and of frustration. The importance is to move through them. Reset your mind. Each difficult situation teaches us something and often enough if we think about it differently, we will find the value of the lesson. In understanding that, it is important that we engage in self- talk and the power it holds when we speak positively into our own lives. After, we have regained our sense of power then we must evaluate what steps we need to change in order to bring about a different outcome- the goal is to be as objective as possible. Once identified, you should make a new plan of action and use what hasn’t worked as a building block for future successes.

In taking all the necessary steps to regain our motivation to fulfill our purpose, there is one thing we all desire- to be accepted and supported by the people we hold closest to us. This may be one person or a group of people who believe in you, are honest and will invest their time into you. Once we find those kinds of people, it is imperative we reciprocate that same support back to them. Let’s become a community!

We will take some losses but it’s what we do with those learnt lessons determine where we will end up in life. Be resilient.
