On May 11th, the team at LyveLyfeRadio got the opportunity to meet upcoming hip-hop artist, Kalaou!
Tiki and Dyme were joined by the beautiful Miss Diva of the Diva Report for this one! Giving him his first radio interview, Kalaou came up to tell us more about himself and his music career. Starting off with his name, we find that Kalaou (pronounced Kuhl-oww) stands for “Kill all lazy ambition overcome uselessness.” Starting off as a poet from Southside Jamaica, Queens, he describes his communities influence on his music as having been exposed to hardships and a lifestyle he was not apart of. His main goal when releasing music, is to get his listeners to feel the way he felt when creating it.
He remixed the Bryson Tiller song “Exchange” and had a line that said “Can I be pro black and have a white chick… if she was light-skin, you’d still have something to say.” This sparked a thoughtful debate on our eras views on light-skin versus dark-skin and the possibility of being “For your people” and still date outside of your race. This was an awesome interview in the way it tied directly into our topic for the week. Plus he promised to get some darker complexioned females in the upcoming music videos! So look out for that. You can find the video below:
Kalaou describes his content as politically aggressive mixed with comical seriousness. In a struggle to break down what this specifically meant, we can assume that he keeps his music very versatile. He plans to stay indie in order to continue having full creative freedom. Keep an eye out for more of him and you can check out the entire episode at the following link!
Check out the newly released video of our exclusive interview with Harlem bred entertainer, Jaquae!! He came by our studio to talk about some new releases as well as what got him where he is now. Very popular for tracks like “Big Booty Judy” and “My Pieces Hittin'”, this NYC native started his entertainment career as a street dancer for the popular dance crew “Hood Presidents”. Since he’s changed his career route and started dropping hit after hit within the past 2 years. Inking a recording deal and then leaving that deal, Jaquae is still pretty humble and very awesome!! Don’t take our word for it, Press play!
